From 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., the artist will meet and interact with visitors to discuss her work and her future creative plans. Curator - Peter Doroshenko (USA).
"My work Without Women has acquired another quality against the background of recent events in Ukraine. I am interested in researching mythologies, archaic imagery and folk traditions. I direct a lot of my creative attention to the original creative power of women as bearers of sacred knowledge. But in the beginning of the war in 2014, I decided to research the male traditions such as shepherding, wild-hive beekeeping, which are also important to our culture. It is about men going through the daily routines which also include things such as doing laundry, milking, making butter, which are unusual for modern times.

The full-scale invasion of Russia into my country in February 2022 coincided with the preparation and the opening of the Biennale. During the initial phase of the war people left the country en masse - in a few weeks more than 5 million women and children left Ukraine. The name of the work "Without Women" became much more meaningful, because men found themselves alone", says artist ZINAIDA.
With the work named «Without Women», ZINAIDA, observes the forgotten traditions of sheep-breeding, an ancient lifestyle of Ukrainian male shepherds that remained mostly unchanged for hundreds of years. The work is filmed in high mountains, in the untouched natural habitat, where the men live in solitude, not unlike monks, for many months. Without women. The artist follows shepherds, observing their daily routine, their ability to survive in extreme conditions, as well as their ability to manage chores are usually associated with women. The resulting striking black and white video installation is a meditation on masculinity, and even though worm are absent from the camera, the feminine is present in the imagery.

This seminal exhibition by ZINAIDA summaries the past and present in a unique Ukrainian cultural perspective. Through the use of video, the artist captures, questions, and celebrates moments in time to layout stories about an isolated location in the Carpathian Mountains.
